The Democratic Party wins the US midterm elections

The Democratic party managed to retain control of the U.S. Senate after a victory by Catherine Cortez Masto in the Nevada state in the 2022 midterm elections. With this victory, the December 6 runoff in Georgia is no longer decisive in determining who controls the upper chamber of the United States.

Four days after the voting for the midterm elections in the United States, the future composition of the House of Representatives and the Senate begin to be defined. While everyone was hoping that a “red wave” would give control of both chambers to the Republican party, the result ends up reviving the hopes of the Democrats.

First week of COP27 marked by few progress

The first week of negotiations comes to an end at COP27. The several countries present at the Climate Summit try to reach significant agreements to prevent climate change and limit the increase in temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Egypt’s Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad stated that the ministers who will begin discussions this Monday, as well as the Egyptian presidency, would facilitate all the discussion to reduce the gap that exists between developed and developing nations, but warned that the developing nations’ success, depends on “everyone.”

The several world leaders are in a race against time to try to save the planet. Next week, it will be the ministers’ turn to sit down at the negotiating table and try to make progress in the dialogue on three key issues related to climate change: loss and damage, adaptation and mitigation. The meeting is being held in Sharm-el-Sheik, Egypt, and will go on until November 18.
