  • Liz Truss resigns after 45 days
    • British prime-minister Liz Truss submitted, last Thursday, her resignation after little over a month in office. It lasted 45 days. “I cannot
deliver the mandate”, she said, following a truly hallucinating
Parliament day on Wednesday, when she claimed to be “a fighter, not a
      quitter” .
    • Liz Truss succeeded Boris Johnson as prime-minister on September
6th, after defeating Rishi Sunak in the running for the Conservative
Party’s leadership, and will be remembered as the prime-minister with
the shortest mandate in the UK’s history (the previous record had been
set by George Canning, after 119 days, until dying from tuberculosis in
1827). Truss said at Downing Street that she’d already notified King
      Charles III.
  • Xi Jinping elected by the CCP for an unprecedented third term
    • Xi Jinping, China’s most powerful leader in several decades, has
reinforced his status this Sunday by earning a third mandate as
secretary-general for the Communist Party, raising allies to key posts
and refusing to mention a potential successor.
    • Xi emerged first when the new formation of the Communist Party’s
Permanent Committee, composed of seven men, climbed on to the
stage built inside the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing, after a
plenary behind closed doors between the 370 delegates of the Party’s
      Central Committee.
    • Xi Jinping may well become the third Chinese ruler leading for the most
time as CCP leader, surpassed only by Mao Tsé Tung, who led the
Party for over thirty years, and Jiang Zemin, who served as
secretary-general over thirteen years, completing two and a half
      mandates.
